A few years ago, my partner came home with a new kitchen garbage can. A perfectly fine garbage can. Except it had a lid. One of those lids that pop up when you push down on it. When you push down on it. You have to touch the garbage can lid to throw something out.

I find that gross. I am not obsessive about germs, but that bugged me. Finally, the other day, I had a solution. I said to her, I want to buy a new garbage can with an automatic lid. But the question is, where to put it? A design like that couldn’t fit under the sink. But our kitchen is small and she didn’t like the idea of a garbage can out in the open of the kitchen. We reached a garbage can impasse.

Why not leave it under the sink, she asked, but just take the lid off?

Brilliant solution. It’s been 4 days now, and I have to report that I throw things away now with much more alacrity and ease. I marvel at this. Not the garbage can, but the simplicity of the solution. What felt impossible, what felt like something in need of a major solution, required, in the end, a very easy fix.

Which brings me to this blog.

Have you noticed how long it’s been since I last posted?

March 26th! Almost 3 months! Every day, like that garbage can lid, it haunts me, and I know I have to do something about it. The thing is, I’ve been busy. Really busy. Those of you who follow me on Facebook or Twitter or Google+ know a bit about it. Lots of new projects, and also lots of guest blogging.

But like the garbage can lid, I’ve been searching for big solutions, when the other day I thought: why don’t I just admit I’m busy instead of feeling guilty, pressured, and late? Why not do what many other bloggers do?  Why don’t I just hang out that sign that says:

I’ll Be Back Soon.

Why not re-post some oldies? So, of the close to 200 blog posts, over 8 years, the one I chose for today speaks to me: “Reading the writing on the wall.”

Time for me to read the writing on my own wall, to wave the white flag, and admit I need a break!

So, dear friends, dear blog readers and followers, who haven’t complained, I am going to take the rest of this month off, and instead, re-post some of my earlier blogs. See you in July! And thanks, as always, for dropping by!
